Le CARRIER c'est la porteuse, autrement dit sur une vraie interface
réseau c'est la présence d'un signal.  Donc je suppose que ton
interprétation est correcte, l'interface logicielle doit utiliser le
CARRIER pour autre chose (présence d'une VM à l'autre bout ou non).

Par contre, sur mes machines je ne trouve pas de CARRIER (mais je n'ai
pas non plus de VirtualBox lancé), j'ai plutôt ça (avec ip link show),
soit UP,LOWER_UP et state UP; je n'ai laissé que les cas différents
car il y a plein d'interfaces sur cette machine:
