Or is this just a start-of-the-game reduction and more of the map opens up as you quest (sort of how some games start you at a really high level and then strip you of your powers, and you have to reclaim them as the game progresses... except with geography). The latter sounds sort of neat... but the former? Why would you do that to a game in a genre that is all about careful and slow progression?
