  yep, we use that too.  it's about the only laundry
detergent we can tolerate.

  potatoes have some toxins in them.  i can't eat
raw potatoes, it would be a bad day...

  raw meats don't bother my hands, but i don't like
the smell of meat or grease.  if you've been vegetarian
for any length of time you do notice smells that other
people won't.

  a little bleach in some water will deodorise plastics
which often have smells clinging to them.  i prefer to
cook, eat and store foods in/on glass or enamelled things
which don't have that problem.  once you wash them well
enough with dish soap (we dilute that too) they don't
have any smell clinging to them.
