Partly it's some of the art-design choices, but mostly, well... "X-Wing" isn't really that great a game. (Heresy, I know). It was far surpassed by "TIE Fighter", which is much more enjoyable. The levels in "X-Wing" are often tediously long and too many times rely on specific hidden triggers to fire off before you get a 'mission successful' result. As much fun as I have flying the T-65, the game is more often a slog than a fun experience. And the mod isn't really going to change that. Still, it's cool that it's finally getting close to release. The dedication of the modders is exemplary and I can admire that much, even if their efforts are largely wasted upon me.
