It looks like only the demo (e.g., "free starter pack") is free. The
game itself is still $70USD.

It also requires an "IO Interactive" account to use.

From what I can tell, all you really get from the starter pack is a
training mode, and then a store to buy the content from the nuHitman
trilogy (or add it to the main game if you already own it). 

Also, despite it being tagged as VR, it has no VR support in the free
version. And it weighs in at 65GB even though most of that content is
inaccessible unless you buy the rest of the games.

TL;DR: if you already own any of the modern Hitman games (which you
likely do; go check your Epic GameStore accounts) then you don't need
this. It's basically just a front for the IO Interactive store.
