For the first time they claim they've done that without damage to brain tissue. Though certainly something that the once resident MD of this newsgroup must be devouring these days to know how (he sells snake oil on the side on that theme), the implication of it is still ridiculously far fetched. But this blog entry is about another advance that Chinese scientists claim they've made, which came out just today. And the big picture behind it. It is about curing the diabetes type 2. It involves transplantation of modified stem cells of the patient to pancreas. This prevent rejection, and these cells soon begin producing insulin for the patient. Their test person was completely cured by it and uses no medication whatsoever. He was in such a bad shape that needed several insulin shots a day to barely manage life. In other words, scientists have found a way to determine which type of cell the stem cell is going to develop into. This is impressive. Now the big picture, what made my day today, hence this entry :) Have you noticed that medical advances don't happen by the Americans anymore? A money-grab system immune to government regulations has already formed the ideal that can exist in the USA in the field of medicine. That's why! :-) Advancement in medicine stops at that. Diseases among Americans are as valuable and sought for now, as cures for them are elsewhere in the world. That's what made my day :)
