In 2022, the international swimming federation created rules aimed at
Lia Thomas and other men like him from competing as woman. A male
athlete who had been through puberty cannot compete as a woman. Also,
an open category was established, but Lia Thomas didn't enter there.

Thomas appealed his ineligibility to the Court of Arbitration for Sport
hoping to get them to remove the ban, but the claim was dismissed the
appeal for lack of standing to challenge the rules.

Lia Thomas is banned from entering trials and will not compete in the
Olympics.
