They allow me to get healthful exercise while doing utility transportation, especially by reducing the need for driving the short trips that are most damaging to IC engines. They give me the pleasure of conversation with like minded friends in interesting surroundings, on club rides or other recreational rides. They allow me to explore places I would not otherwise explore, including off-road trips not possible in a car or motorcycle. They have, without doubt, kept me much stronger in musculature and in a cardiovascular sense. B) But more important, my bicycles have zero societal detriments. They are not designed to, nor are able to, kill another human being. They don't require society to spend fortunes defending against them. They don't even add to road maintenance costs. They don't generate fear in others. In fact, their use often makes passers-by smile. I saw that several times on today's ride. Benefits vs. detriments. John, you really should get help understanding that concept. -- - Frank Krygowski
