Proprietary vendors playing follow-the-leader ... right into the future-
obsolescence tar pit.

What adds to the irony is that Apple’s OS is supposedly built on a BSD 
foundation, created by smart folks who had no patience for arbitrary 
restrictions on what their OS could do.
