j'ai testé sur virtualbox une installation. Bien sur, si on prends 
l'installation automatique il ne vous demande rien, et là, c'est sur, on 
a plus l'ancien système

il y a bien une colonne "formater". Il est vivement conseillé de 
formater la partition root. Pour celle home, qu'il est recommandé 
d'avoir séparée, c'est facultatif

si on met tout dans la même partition et qu'on ne formate pas on a un 
système indéterminé :-)
