In the past, on this newsgroup, I tested & listed every free SMS/MMS app. In doing so, I had to switch from one default messaging app to another. Most people don't seem to realize they can change the default messaging app at will, and they will NOT lose any messages by doing so. The only thing you might lose is if you add stuff to the messaging app. For exmaple, PulseSMS allows you to give group names & group colors. When you switch from PulseSMS to something else as the default messaging app, those group names and group colors may be lost since they're not kept in the Android default messaging sqlite database. But the SMS/MMS messages and MMS media is maintained in that sqlite db.
