It's not clear when Chris says "regular updates" that he's aware Apple has explicitly publicly stated that will NOT fully support anything but iOS 18 when it is released. <https://screenrant.com/apple-product-security-update-lifespan/> <https://support.apple.com/guide/deployment/about-software-updates-depc4c80847a/> <https://hothardware.com/news/apple-admits-only-fully-patches-security-flaws-in-latest-os-releases> <https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/10/apple-clarifies-security-update-policy-only-the-latest-oses-are-fully-patched/> That means iOS 15, 16 & 17, etc., will be unsupported just like Windows XP and Android 4.4 are unsupported - even as all get a bugfix once in a while. Just as Windows XP and Android 4.4 devices are regularly updated, the only safe thing do to with any of them (Windows XP or Android older than Android 10, including an iPhone X or older) is to throw it over the next bridge.
