One of Terry Pratchett's novels describes a democratic
religion, where the god and the worshippers get to
negotiate what the terms of the religion are to be.

He also wrote a scene where there is war in the
mortal world and the gods make an appearance to
tell everyone to stop that, although not all of
the gods disapprove of the war but some of them
are having their arms twisted, literally.

But of course also there's Fredric Brown's "Answer" -
which is "No, F-R-E-D-R-I-C", of course.
