Hi Ant, The fact is, no operating system murders privacy like iOS does, Ant. You're not an Apple zealot so I'll just let you know that you do not need to have an account on Google's servers to send messages on an Android phone but you DO need to have an account (which nobody wants) on Apple's servers to send a message using Apple's messaging system. That is why Apple's messaging system horrendously murdered privacy. The ignorant Apple zealots don't even realize this huge privacy hole due to the required account which they "think" Android requires - but they're wrong. The Apple zealots who equate the Apple mothership tracking account to a Google mothership tracking account have no idea there's no account needed on the Google servers. In a word, those Apple zealots are stupid. Only Apple requires that mothership account. No other operating system is designed to murder privacy like iOS is.
