True story: the one time I actually begged my client to let me use a Windows machine. I had set up these Linux servers. At that point I hadn’t got my first laptop, the Eee 701 PC, otherwise I would have used it. I did editing of files on the Linux boxes using Emacs, normally directly from their consoles, but in this case it wasn’t convenient to do this. The client had several Windows machines and Macs running OS X. I tried using SSH on one of the Macs, and got into Emacs on the Linux box. Every time I hit CTRL- SPACE to start a selection, it would pop up Searchlight on the Mac, I think it was. There seemed to be no way to turn this off, and it was driving me mad. So eventually I gave up and used Putty (I think it was) on a Windows machine. And got the job done.
