He's praying to Lucifer! These guys sound like they're at the level of Chic Publications. For those of us who don't speak Latin (me)... "lucifer" in Latin means "bringing light" or the "morning star." "lux" = light, "ferre" = to bring. In this passage it's being applied to Jesus as the "Morning Star" not to satan. English translation as published by the Catholic Church... May this flame be found still burning by the Morning Star: the one Morning Star who never sets, Christ your Son, who, coming back from death's domain, has shed his peaceful light on humanity, and lives and reigns for ever and ever. Note, "lucifer" is not capitalized as if it were a name in the Latin. "This flame" is the paschal candle, which the priest is preparing and will light as this song ends (the part quoted is just end the of the song). The name Lucifer was given to satan indirectly. Lucifer was originally applied to the planet Venus, the "morning star" when it appeared in the morning skies. It was applied to the fallen King of Babylon by Isaiah... How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground which didst weaken the nations! Only later did Christians apply this passage to satan. Tertullian and Gregory the Great understood this passage of Isaiah in reference to the fall of Satan; in consequence of which the name Lucifer has since been applied to Satan. So, I guess, some idiot saw the word "lucifer" in Latin and assumeed that meant the Catholics were praising satan. You would think they would investigate a little further before proclaiming it to the world, putting their ignorance on display. -- “Evil is not able to create anything new, it can only distort and destroy what has been invented or made by the forces of good.” —J.R.R.
