For John Larkin's definition of the left, which assumes that all left-wingers want an authoritarian socialist - Soviet Communist style - regime. Most socialists know that this is bad idea - and Karl Marx got thrown out of the International Socialist organisation in 1871 for endorsing it. > Since they assume that they understand social and economic systems, no > matter how complex, and control everything, it makes sense that they > would define dissenting theories as "disinformation" and make such > illegal. The "control everything" part is the problem. US big business has the same kind of ambition, and the US was the first country to introduce anti-trust legislation in an attempt to control. It clearly didn't go far enough. > That dynamic is one reason that centrally-controlled economies do so > badly, and tend to kill millions. As Trump did when he tried to control the US response to the Covid-19 epidemic which probably a million more Americans than it would have done under a better-informed regime. -- Bill Sloman, Sydney
