Now suddenly Linux compatibility matters more than paying lip service to POSIX ever did. So Microsoft first tried to add a compatibility layer (WSL1) like it did for POSIX. And just as for POSIX, that simply wasn’t worth using. But having token support wasn’t enough: unlike for POSIX of old, the market is demanding real Linux support. And the “personality” system of Windows just isn’t up to it: so it had to add a real Linux kernel. Yes, that does represent a victory of Linux over Windows.
