Unfortunately, given the perpetual political amnesia from which most 
Americans seem to suffer, that's not typically a useful metric. The 
dingdong we just re-elected ran on "Are you better than you were four 
years ago?" even though we are, by almost any definition, better off 
than he left us in 2021.

It's like watching a cow placidly lick an electric fence, bolt away in 
terror, and then a few minutes later wander back and do it again.
