I can respect the Illinois Supreme Court's grounds for overturning the second conviction. Disappointment by the public over the sweetheart deal Kim Foxx made with him led to the second set of charges for essentially the same offense, which seems like a violation of fundamental principles of justice. It's a shame Foxx didn't punish him more appropriately on his first conviction but it contributed to her eventual replacement as State's Attorney so there is that good news. I suppose today's decision opens the door to Smollett launching a suit against the state for wrongful prosecution. I wonder how big the settlement will be? Then again, a suit would require Smollett to hire lawyers and his career is so deep in the toilet he might not be able to afford that.... I hope whoever replaced Foxx is a lot better at his/her job than Foxx was! -- Rhino
