Well it's not that extreme of a shift here. To me, you practically seem to live in the Arctic (I know that's an exaguration);. Here lowest sun is when it's just comming up at 7am and down by 5pm. The tech is rapidly evolving and they are working on roof shingle setups that will be much cheaper they say, and can be repaired by anyone able to climb a ladder. Just give it time. On mini-wind types, yes they exist as well as ground mounted solar. I have no direct experience with those. I've now gotten 2 batteries I charge from solar. I plan to add more. I also plan an oxygen concentrator with batteries (for Don, just in case). This goes along with my own style of having backup plans for outages. It's just going in stages. The big stage is a Kohlar (sp?) generator in the back of the house that runs off natural gas and will cover essential needs. About 4K will cover us with a portable AC unit and critical outlets for things.
