One can purchase electromagnets that can hold 40+ pounds (some operating at up to 100 pounds) for ~$75 (QTY1) and operate them from a 24V supply with << 1A. This has got to be the easiest way to avoid the mechanical mess that comes with other "launch" schemes! I will place an order after the holidays. No idea what lead times will be. Maybe I can replace the spring with something else, at the same time. If the release/catch issue is out of the way the rest should be easy!
