Con-men (although /they/ might not think so). Who do they think you are? A potential mark. The con-man game is all about the law of averages. Try enough marks, and some will take the bait and you'll (the con-man) get a payoff. To secure enough payoffs they have to try a lot of potential marks to find the few that bite. But they don't 'know' you, anymore than they know the other 1,000 potential marks they tested yesterday.
