That's deliberate. I believe done with a voltage trigger, envelope generator
and a voltage-controlled filter. I like the effect.

I used that setup on my old PAIA home-built synthesizer back when I still
had an electric guitar. Like 45 years ago.

That small DIY unit with a case is almost $300. They have a rack setup
with roughly the same equipment (plus a MIDI to control voltage converter)
for over $600.
