What's this hangup with "victory gardens"? Times are always
a-changing. That you don't want to change with them is your... uhm...
idiosyncrasy.

Especially during an emergency, it's very inefficient to eat animals.
Instead of giving feed to the animals for months or years and then
eating them, it's better to grow or buy stuff you can eat yourself.
