I just tried swiping left from "my" home screen, and it just goes to
another home screen (in a circular fashion) so I think the launcher matters
(as likely does your settings for how you want the basic UI to work).

BTW, swiping right does the same thing - only in the other direction. :)

Swiping down brings up the tile menu and notifications.
Swiping up brings up an App Drawer app of some sort.
