You have really got a bad case of Saviour Syndrome don't you? Only YOU 
are "brave" enough to stand up for the (verbally) oppressed as those 
poor timid souls are quaking in their boots whenever someone says 
anything that could be construed as even vaguely negative in their 
presence....

Why don't you ASK THEM FIRST if they feel offended by whatever remark 
you heard before sticking your nose into their affairs and scolding the 
person who said it? You might very well be astonished to find that they 
were not offended at all!
