The bear was up a tree, not threatening those Fearless, Brave
Hunters. Shooting the poor bear who was not a threat (regardless
of the complexity of the local laws) was a cravenly cowardly
thing to do.

And why were the hunters standing under the tree? Did they
think they were going to catch it as it fell?
