Or are their information needs already being met by existing sources? My inclination is that there are already enough information sources, including comp.os.linux.misc, that a separate newsgroup for the variant is not going to fly. The way to prove me wrong is to post in the existing newsgroup(s) and find actual examples of people who would use a new group.
