She would have been about 12 years old when she filmed the movie. It
was her film debut. Overall, I think she was great in the role. Her
character witnesses her entire family murdered. She then shacks up with
a much older man, who she continuously tries to seduce, although he
won't have anything to do with her in that way. And she trains to be an
assassin. She also has to share screen time with seasoned professional
actors like Gary Oldman and Danny Aiello and holds her own very well for
a 12 year old.

This is a good scene of her being emotional:

Here are some samples of her goofing around in character:

And here she is with Oldman:

If you've never watched "Léon: The Professional," I highly recommend it.
It is a very solid mid 90s action flick with Gary Oldman chewing the
scenery as the villain.

Within the continuity of the movie, yes. The ten rings crashed on Earth
1000 years ago, so they were definitely around in the 1800s. There was
also a dragon in the movie, but I don't want to spoil anything in case
you haven't watched it yet.
