Iirc, MacNeill/Lehrer used to be of unquestioned integrity in TV news. 
I don't know about today.  (I've never relied on NPR for news.)

MediaBiasFactCheck rates NPR as "slight to moderate liberal bias", which 
might be about as even-handed as is humanly possible.
