Although old cars look a lot nicer, style-wise... they last way longer 
now.  That coincides with the higher price, I suppose.  It's rare to see 
a newer vehicle rusted out, but some old vehicles would rust through in 
less than 5 years, several decades ago.

Sure, just a sales-tactic to take a "trade in".
