An essayist I read sometimes had one piece about his native Britain. 
Apparently, the British parliament maintains short biographies of all 
members of Parliament - currently there are 650 - and he happened to 
read them for some reason. He was struck by how every last one of them - 
no exceptions - made a point of identifying their favourite "football" 
(soccer) team. He thought it was incredibly unlikely each and every one 
of them cared passionately about football and speculated that every one 
of them felt the need to profess a favourite team in Britain's favourite 
sport just to seem like the British equivalent of a "regular guy".
