One of her record-setting swims -- in high school -- made it onto nationlal tv. As I was following women's swimming, I'd long known who she was. When she was interviewed, she simply came across like an ordinary young woman and spoke about her training and her sport. She didn't make political comments. It's just appalling that after the women's gymnastics medical scandal was revealed, her athletic department and her swimming federation within the NCAA refused to protect women. This legislation -- if it gets through the Senate -- shouldn't be necessary. This shouldn't be political at all. I admire her. She tried to stand up for herself and wasn't willing to sweep this crap under the rug. She was unwilling to be a silent victim.
