No, it doesn't come out the same with crushed tortilla chips.  Fritos. 
The original recipe called for "corn doodles", which apparently were a 
cheaper version of Fritos back in the day.

What chemical additives?  I add onion and garlic powder.  Nothing else 
is really needed.
