I've read some of his novels (there are hundreds; he was prolific) and like the humor in a lot of them. The adaptation that best captures his black humor was the tv series Maximum Bob. I didn't read this one. I have seen the movie and agree with you that it's relentlessly mediocre, waste of a good cast. >. . .
