Wisconsin has had multiple poultry farms go down and one poultry worker infected, but they have never wanted to test their dairy herds. Texas is likely on their second round of infections in their dairy herds, and Idaho is known to have infected herds (two positive herds were identified due to California herd contacts). The virus has likely pretty much gone through most of the herds in these states by now, but they just do not test. This should not be allowed. The current USDA program is "voluntary" and we all know how effective the dairy voluntary programs have been since the start of the infection. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/push-detect-virus-milk-supply-testing-bird-flu-cows-rcna188612 California is claiming that 281 of the infected herds have cleared the virus (745 total infected herds). That likely means that the infection in Texas in Dec. was part of a second round with probably all the herds in Texas having been infected and cleared the virus months before the Dec infection. If the USDA was doing the epidemiology studies that they should be doing weekly we would not be guessing about the progress of the dairy epidemic. https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/AHFSS/Animal_Health/HPAI.html Ron Okimoto
