I prefer a simpler window manager, not a desktop manager. My goto for years has been Fluxbox, with an occasional excursion into Xfce4. When I do boot to Windows (mainly to build a Windows version of my code), I find it kind of like running and suddenly hitting beach sand. I beef up that environment with MSYS2, Git Bash, VLC, vim/gvim, and MingW dev tools. Oh, and Qt Creator. When I had to use Windows at work, I'd add Libreoffice, at least for small unofficial documents. -- Conquering Russia should be done steppe by steppe.
