Switching to a minimal boot kernel isn’t so much about being “known good” as it is about avoiding locks on files that need to be upgraded. > The logfiles go in a different place now. Why? Wonder why this is even necessary. A Linux distro can upgrade itself in- place, without touching third-party stuff in /usr/local or /opt.
