Them old steam cookers made sense, since those old navy tubs were powered by steam engines. Popeye often bragged about them, and he was known to cook up massive amounts of grub for only two old people. Imagine how much shit he cooked for the hundreds of servicemen on those massive ships he commanded! Especially when he intervened in the cuban missile crisis back in the early 60's.
