The pet food company got their chicken from a free range farm. If this farm sold them infected chickens that means that they also put infected chickens into the human food chain, but the FDA and USDA are not responding. There is no attempt to figure out how widespread this is when it may have happened once before, but that was never confirmed. It wasn't even investigated as to whether the turkey farm involved in the last pet food recall had been infected or if it was the beef bones used in the pet food. They need to start warning consumers that they need to treat poultry and raw beef products with care. They need to wash their hands after dealing with the raw meat, and should not touch their face or eyes before washing their hands. Now that the D1.1 genotype is infecting poultry flocks and dairy farms the situation is worse. Ron Okimoto
