Names have followed trends (of a sort) for many decades now. Prudence
and Gladys *were* popular names many decades ago but were long ago
superseded by others. I still remember when nearly every female being
born was named Tiffany, Crystal or (I've forgotten the third of the Big
Three) back in the late 80s/early 90s. I put that 80s trend down to
people naming their girls after popular TV characters of the time. Older
naming trends are probably more down to people being named after popular
book characters, back in the days when a lot more people read and TV
wasn't yet in existence.
