Not done in Doctor Who before (that I know of), but certainly the same 
sort of idea has been done before in other shows, movies, and music 
videos. One of the better examples is a "Stargate SG-1" episode where 
they were all puppets similar to Gerry Anderson's "Thunderbirds", 
"Stingray", etc.
