Certainly any professional-level job likely requires being able to write better than he is able to do. But if it's a job where all you're doing is simple assembly it's probably okay, because you're just looking at documentation, not creating it. I had a contract job last year where documentation was critically important because the employees doing much of the assembly were not very technical. Also we were dealing with high voltage DC and high voltage AC power and it was critical to do thins properly.
