Then there's:
  - The Madame Blanc Mysteries
  - The Marlow Murder Club
  - Queens of Mystery
  - The Good Ship Murder
  - Moonflower Murders
  - Agatha Raisin
  - Ludwig

and the professional / semi-professional private detectives helping police:
  - Harry Wild
  - Whitstable Pearl
  - Professor T
  - Shakespeare & Hathaway

Plus of course all the proper police ones.

And those are just off the top of my head. There are plenty more, even
not counting non-UK ones.

He did get promoted from Detective Sergeant to Detective Inspector at
some point. He didn't want to be the boss - he was offered another
promotion after DCI Cassie Stuart died, but he turned it down because
he didn't think he was in the right frame of mind after her death.
