A Gran Fondo event in Belgium with 2500 registered riders was cancelled
when a massive pileup of approximately 150 riders at the front of the
ride resulted in dozens of injuries and 7 hospitalizations.

Different perspectives on the severity abound.

Gran Fondo Daily led with the headline

"BROKEN BIKES BODIES AND BLOOD"

While the UCI website called it

"an unfortunate accident"
