Basically they didn't.  (This got asked before.)  Some fans of the show 
eventually decoded the glyphs before the series ended.  How far that 
spread on the 'net I have no idea.  There was a companion book released 
after the series ended that also gives the full code, including the 
couple of letters that were not shown in the show.
