Sounds reasonable (or even quite good) for such a cheap sensor. Does yours
come with a datasheet that specifies accuracy limits?

The datasheet on the Sparkfun website claims "the ranging accuracy can reach
to 3mm", but does not give any guaranteed limits - and I believe there are
lots of clone parts thay may be even worse.
