Il semblerait que la cause soit l'éruption géante en janvier dernier 
d'un volcan sous-marin. Les volcans terrestres projettent parfois de 
grande quantités de poussières dans l'atmosphère ce qui a un effet 
refroidissant sur l'atmosphère pendant plusieurs mois. Le volcan 
sous-marin a injecté de la vapeur d'eau dans la stratosphère ce qui a un 
effet réchauffant.
