I hope everyone has been able to find time to enjoy Amateur Radio in the great outdoors. RAC certainly hasnâ €™t slowed down – there’s lots going on. After Field Day and the RAC Canada Day Contest, RAC once again hosted yo uth from across the world in Halifax, Nova Scotia for Youth On The Air ( YOTA) Camp. All told, more than 25 youth spent a week with their peers l earning, operating and forming new friendships that will last them a lif etime. I once again had the opportunity to attend the ARRL Board of Directors mee tings in Windsor, Connecticut. These gatherings are a great opportunity for each organization to collaborate and learn what the other is doing fo r the furtherance of Amateur Radio in each of our jurisdictions. RAC’s Annual General Meeting will be held online on Saturday, Oc tober 5 at 3 pm Eastern Time. Due to the rising cost of – well eve rything – the RAC Board of Directors decided it was prudent to go with the virtual option this year. Details on how to sign up to attend th e online meeting will be sent out via bulletin so please keep an eye on yo ur inbox and subscribe to RAC bulletins if you haven’t already don e so (https://www.rac.ca/rac-notifications/) RAC has fielded a lot of queries about enforcement over the past few years .. We have a story about an incident which shows that bad behaviour on the airwaves can land you in some pretty deep trouble. Check out Dave Goodwin , VE3KG’s “Regulatory Roundup” column on page 23 of the September-October 2024 TCA. A report on Amateur Radio-related activities during the last solar eclipse can be found on page 10, where David Kadzan, AD8Y, speaks to what t he Case Amateur Radio Club accomplished during this extraordinary event. A group of Amateurs answered “The QO-100 Challenge from North Amer ica” issued by AMSAT-UK. Three teams of Amateurs from the United K ingdom, the Netherlands and Canada travelled to St John’s, Ne wfoundland in May 2024 and their combined articles describe the different approaches, challenges and successes in the quest to access QO-100 from Newfoundland (page 33). I also recommend you check out Jason Tremblay, VE3JXT’s update o n Community Services / Auxiliary Communication Service brief on page 45 to find out about some of the exciting things RAC is involved in. Finally, it is with mixed feelings that I announce my resignation as Pre sident of Radio Amateurs of Canada, effective November 1, 2024. While leading Canada’s national organization has been the pinnacle of m y time as a Radio Amateur, my family has moved full-time to Boquete in P anama’s ChiriquĂ province. I have secured operating privilege s as well as the call sign HP3QR. There is a Parks On The Air (POTA) entity about an hour from our house tha t has never been activated and I plan to fix that in early September. I al so plan to become involved with the local expatriate community’s e ducational program and show youth in my area the wonders of Amateur Radio. I would like to thank the RAC Board, Executive and volunteers for their support during my time as President and previously as a Regional Director .. I would also like to thank you, the member, for the support youâ €™ve given and continue to give to Radio Amateurs of Canada. I look forward to hearing you down the band. For now, – 73, Phil A. McBride, VA3QR/HP3QR RAC President and Chair Phil McBride, VA3QR Message du PrĂ©sident : septembre-octobre 2024 Phil A. McBride, VA3QR/HP3QR PrĂ©sident de RAC L’étĂ© s’achèvera bientĂ´t. ========== REMAINDER OF ARTICLE TRUNCATED ==========
